4 WAYS TO CLEAN AND SPICE PONMO/ COW SKIN

Ponmo is a popular protein used in soups and stews in Nigeria alongside side beef, turkey, and fish. Ponmo adds its own flavor and garnishes the soup and stews when added. A lot of people like to use Ponmo but struggle to clean it,If not cleaned properly, it smells and has Sand which will spoil the soup. Here are 4 steps to clean Ponmo proper

THINGS YOU NEED TO CLEAN THE PONMO

1. Water

2. Salt

3 knife

4. A bowl

STEP 1 : PUT THE PONMO IN A BOWL AND ADD SALT.

In a bowl or deep plate, put Ponmo inside, sprinkle salt on it and add water

STEP 2: SCRUB THE SALT WITH PONMO

After sprinkling salt and adding water, the next step is to scrub the Ponmo with salt and make sure the Salt goes around the Ponmo. This is important as it helps kills germs, if possible also soak the Ponmo in hot water and salt

STEP 3 : RINSE WITH WATER AND CLEAN THE PONMO WITH KNIFE

The next step after scrubbing Ponmo with salt is to rinse it and use a knife to scrape the body and inside of the Ponmo, this enables you to get rid of all the dirt and sand. This is the most important step when cleaning the Ponmo and should be done vigorously. When this is done go ahead to rinse the

STEP 4: CUT PONMO INTO BITS

This step is optional, but I like doing it and also advise people to do it because it will help you confirm is the Ponmo is clean. It also helps your Ponmo cook better and allows the spices to penetrate into the Ponmo making it taste so delicious.

BONUS TIP ON HOW TO SPICE PONMO.

I like to spice and cook my Ponmo after cleaning it, this enables the Ponmo to have taste and also to be soft. Here is how to spice your Ponmo

In a pot add water, add your cleaned Ponmo, add pepper( the pepper can be fresh or dry) add salt, also add seasoning cubes. Ginger is optional , you can also slice onions.
